Mayor de Blasio Announced Support for Line-of-Duty Death Benefits for COVID-19

May 19, 2020

On May 19, 2020, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced his support for line-of-duty death benefits for our five brave Detectives, fellow Police Officers, and all municipal workers who die due to contracting the Coronavirus. Although this brings us one step closer to winning our tireless fight for our fallen brothers to receive the benefits they earned, our government officials must remember it is their sacred obligation to support us. Just like the New York City Council during our testimony at City Hall, the DEA will continue to press the Governor and our New York legislators until the families of our fallen heroes are fully supported. Together, we will be relentless in our demands to ensure our heroes are properly honored and their loved ones receive every possible benefit they deserve. In unity there is strength. The DEA gives special thanks to our longtime supporter, New York City Councilman Joe Borelli, who we have been in contact with on this issue since our first tragic loss.
