Thinking of becoming a private eye or running a security firm?

The first step is to obtain the proper state license.

Every state has a licensing division for private investigators and security (also known as watchguard) companies. You'll need to pass an exam based on P.I. and Security License Law. In addition, New York State requires a $10,000 license surety bond. These bonds have a two-year duration and can be obtained through the DEA's insurance consultant, The Mechanic Group, for only $125.00. The State of New York also requires all security companies to purchase liability insurance with minimum limits of $300,000 per occurence. Workers compensation and state disability is also required if your firm has any employees, independent contractors, or has more than two officers. All of these items are available from The Mechanic Group.

Reliant Safety’s Mobile Response Team (MRT) has a job opportunity. Flexible tour changes for personal matters. All MRT teams work a partner (also retired MOS), no “heavy lifting.” Salary 55K to start, $300 monthly gas stipend, end of year bonus 1-3K, and 3% yearly cost of living increase. Commercial Real Estate Appraisal firm is looking for a detail-oriented former MOS who has experience in researching and investigating. Ability to retrieve information is critical. The position requires good interpersonal skills as well as intuition. Must be a “people person” able to communicate with all types: owners, brokers, tenants, buyers, and sellers. Ideal candidate will have a sense of humor and ability to persevere. The work is varied and includes online research, phone calls, field work, navigating government agencies, and researching municipal records. “Thick skin” required. Must be very reliable. Work at home and work in field with some occasional partial days required in firm’s Westchester office. This is a part-time, independent contractor position. Must be available during regular business hours and be able to commit to entire days when required. Requires a flexible schedule during all business hours throughout the year. Executive Protection Detail Available

Sentinel Management Group is seeking retired Law Enforcement Officers to fill permanent (one year minimum) security positions in Manhattan. The tours are generally 12 hours as follows: 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. This is an executive protection detail, more details at time of interview. We need coverage seven days per week. In order to be considered for this position, applicants must have the following documents at the time of the interview: 1. Retired Law Enforcement ID Card; 2. NYS Armed Guard License; 3. NYS Unrestricted Firearm License; 4. Proof of NYS Training (8 hour annual firearm certificate); and 5. “Good Guy” letter. If retired more than 10 years you will need an 8 annual in-service training certificate in addition to the 8-hour annual firearm certificate. Please bring ALL your training certificates with you at the time of your interview.

Valid NYS Armed Security License and valid carry permit required.

Provide security to highly sensitive public and private client locations through patrols, monitoring and access control. Education and Experience required includes the following: Must be at least 18 years of age; High School Diploma or equivalent; A Degree in Criminal Justice a plus; For armed positions, must have prior law enforcement experience, necessary pistol permit and armed security officer license; For unarmed positions, military or law enforcement background preferred, and security officer license a plus; Intermediate computer and electronic communication skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Drive; Ability to cope with emergencies and uncertainties; Ability to adhere to operational planning and procedures; Surveillance skills; Ability to exercise sound judgment and objectivity; Dependable; Ability to sustain emotional control; Honesty and integrity; Professionalism; Reporting skills.
