Officer Rafael Ramos and his partner, P.O. Wen Jian Liu, were sitting in their patrol car in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn on December 20, 2014, when a man walked up to their vehicle and assassinated them for no reason, except that he hated police and had come to New York to injure or kill Officers. He later committed suicide. Both Officers were posthumously promoted to Detective, first grade.
