While in active service with the Real Time Crime Center, Det. Paolillo passed away on September 9, 2019, from illnesses contracted as a result of his work on the rescue and recovery from 9/11.
He was appointed to the force on July 5, 1989, and promoted to Detective on December 5, 1997. He earned second grade on March 29, 2016.
On August 4, 2023, a street was renamed at Sheppard Street and Glen Head Road in Long Island, NY 11545 for Det. Second Grade Joseph M. Paolillo.
